New Windsor, MD - The New Windsor Fire and Hose Company No. 1 continued its commitment to community engagement and fire prevention this past weekend by participating in two Trunk or Treat events throughout the New Windsor community. These events provided an excellent opportunity for firefighters to interact with local families, celebrate the Halloween season, and promote fire safety while enjoying some festive fun.

Friday Evening – Trunk or Treat at Local Homestead Products

On Friday evening, October 23, members of the New Windsor Fire Department and New Windsor Junior Fire Department participated in a Trunk or Treat event hosted by Local Homestead Products.

Firefighters and junior members enjoyed spending time with children and families, handing out treats, and sharing in the Halloween festivities. Unfortunately, the department's participation was cut short when Engine 101 was dispatched to assist a neighboring department with a barn fire in the Libertytown area of Frederick County.

Although our members had to leave earlier than anticipated, the incident served as an important reminder that our volunteers remain ready to answer the call for help, even while participating in community events.

Saturday Evening – Uniontown Bible Church Trunk or Treat

On Saturday evening, the New Windsor Fire Department continued its Halloween festivities by attending the annual Trunk or Treat event hosted by Uniontown Bible Church.

Engine 101 and Utility 10 attended the event with a combined staffing of seven dedicated volunteers. Joining our volunteers were career personnel from the Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS assigned to Union Bridge, who attended with their medic unit and utility vehicle.

The event welcomed more than 2,000 attendees and featured a variety of family-friendly activities, including hayrides, face painting, a petting zoo, a bounce house, and plenty of Halloween treats.

Throughout the evening, firefighters enjoyed interacting with children and their families, showing off the fire apparatus, and answering questions about the fire service. Events like these provide a valuable opportunity for our members to build relationships with the community while helping children become more comfortable around firefighters and emergency equipment.

The New Windsor Fire Department would like to thank Local Homestead Products and Uniontown Bible Church for inviting us to participate in their Halloween celebrations. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of the organizers and volunteers who made these events possible.

Halloween Safety Tips – Keep Your Little Ghosts and Goblins Safe!

With Halloween quickly approaching, the New Windsor Fire Department would like to remind families to keep safety a top priority while enjoying trick-or-treating activities.

Follow these simple tips for a safe and enjoyable Halloween:

Be Seen! Wear bright-colored costumes or add reflective tape to costumes and treat bags. Carry flashlights or glow sticks to improve visibility after dark.

Walk Safely! Use sidewalks whenever possible, cross streets at designated crosswalks, and look both ways before crossing. Avoid running between parked vehicles.

Stay Together! Young children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult. Older children should travel in groups and follow an established route.

Choose Safe Costumes! Select flame-resistant costumes that fit properly to prevent trips and falls. Avoid masks that obstruct vision.

Check Your Treats! Parents and guardians should inspect candy and treats before allowing children to eat them.

Practice Fire Safety! Use battery-operated candles or LED lights in jack-o'-lanterns instead of open flames. Keep decorations away from heat sources and exits.

Drivers, Stay Alert! Slow down in residential neighborhoods, watch carefully for children crossing streets, and eliminate distractions while driving.

From all of us at the New Windsor Fire and Hose Company No. 1, we wish everyone a safe, fun, and Happy Halloween!
