Members of the Newtown Square Fire Company were dispatched to the Cornerstone Apartments for a reported automatic fire alarm, just before 5:00 PM.

Newtown Square Fire Company Chief Chris Young, and Engine 41 under the command of Lieutenant Eric Harper arrived simultaneously on location. The residents of the building had evacuated upon hearing the alarm and they were standing in the parking lot, awaiting the Fire Company arrival. (Excellent job by the residents) The source of the alarm was traced to a faulty smoke detector in the trash room. Maintenance was notified, and the alarm system was reset.

As the team was leaving the Cornerstone Apartments, they received a second call from Delaware County Fire Radio for another automatic fire alarm, this time at the Melmark Home. While en route, they were informed that the alarm was the result of an accidental activation, but staff were experiencing issues with resetting it.

Chief Chris Young proceeded in to evaluate the situation and the engine returned to quarters. Just an average dinner time for the dedicated professionals of your local volunteer fire department.
