| At 8:52 a.m., township fire companies were dispatched to a business in the 100 block of Fry Drive for a fire alarm. Engine 33, staffed with six personnel, Engine 31 with four, and Chief 33 responded to the call. Engine 33 and Chief 33 arrived at 8:57 a.m. and employees directed them to access Door 100 on the Charlie side of the building.
Upon arrival, fire crews observed smoke visible inside the building. Staff reported that there had been an oven fire. At 8:58 a.m., Chief 33 requested a first alarm dispatch. The crew from Engine 33 began investigating the incident while Engine 33 was backed in at an open bay door to allow for quick deployment of large hose lines into the building. Engine 31 prepared to lay out from a nearby yard hydrant located close to the warehouse.
During the investigation, it was determined that the fire had already been extinguished, and crews marked the fire under control. However, a significant area of the warehouse remained filled with smoke. Command requested a large ventilation fan from the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which is staged at the tunnels, to help clear the smoke. Additional incoming units were asked to stage in a "Level 1" formation on Fry Drive, except for the first-arriving tower unit.
Crews worked with maintenance staff to reverse the ventilation of rooftop units and monitored the smoke levels throughout the building. In total, 12 fans were used, provided by Engine 33, Engine 31, Tower 29, Tower 45, and Rescue 30. Once the situation was stabilized, the assignment was reduced to only those units actively involved in the operation. Note - Turnpike Ventilation Fan was not available for this incident due to no life hazard.
Fire personnel remained on scene until approximately 10:00 a.m., when all ventilation was complete. One employee was evaluated by EMS at the scene. Thanks are extended to Engine 236 (Citizens) for transferring to Station 33 during the incident. |
