SAN LEON FIRE TRAINS LIKE THE REAL THING

By Engineer JEFF PITTMAN
October 7, 2026

San Leon Volunteer Fire Department conducted hands-on scenario training tonight for both new and experienced Engine Operators. The focus was on pump operations and establishing a reliable water supply.

Securing a water supply is a critical first step when crews arrive at a working fire. Firefighters must determine how much water is available, how much is being used, and whether the correct flow rates can be sustained to support a safe and effective fire attack.

Training included using the hydrant assist/OASIS valve, connecting to and preparing hydrants, supplying water to the first engine while operating the deck gun, and utilizing the booster truck to maintain water supply to the attack engine. Crews also practiced enhancing hydrant flow when additional water is needed.

These skills are essential and must be second nature before responding to real emergencies. Consistent training ensures department members remain prepared, confident, and ready to respond whenever the community needs assistance.
