Chimney Cleaning |

| As temperatures drop and homeowners turn to fireplaces and wood stoves for warmth, the members of the Ancram Fire Company would like to remind residents of the dangers of neglected chimneys. Over time, chimneys can accumulate creosote, a highly flammable substance produced by burning wood. If enough creosote builds up, it can ignite and cause a chimney fire, potentially spreading to the roof or the rest of the home. Blocked chimneys can also allow dangerous smoke and carbon monoxide to enter living spaces. Regular chimney cleaning is one of the simplest ways to reduce these risks. Homeowners should have their chimneys inspected and cleaned by a qualified professional when necessary, particularly before the start of the heating season. A clean, well-maintained chimney not only helps prevent fires but also allows fireplaces and wood stoves to operate more safely and efficiently. Taking a little time to maintain a chimney can help protect homes, property and lives. |
