The San Leon Fire and Rescue Volunteer Fire Department began the first day of a two-day Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provided by VFIS. This training aims to improve the safety and skill of members who operate emergency vehicles.

The course covers emergency driving laws, driver responsibilities, risk management, liability, decision-making, and the real-life situations firefighters may encounter while responding to emergencies. Operating an emergency vehicle is not just about getting to a call quickly; it is about making smart decisions that protect both firefighters and the community.

Each response requires careful attention and responsibility, not only to department members but also to the citizens and others sharing the roadway. Ongoing training helps ensure safer operations and readiness in emergency situations.

The department recognizes the dedication of its members, who take time away from their families to continually train and improve their abilities as emergency vehicle operators. The goal is to train thoroughly, drive carefully, and ensure everyone arrives home safely.
