| Members of the Stafford Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) supported three events October 23–25, providing EMS coverage for a local high school football game, a community Halloween race, and the 51st Marine Corps Marathon. The weekend highlighted the department's commitment to community service, emergency medical readiness, and regional public safety partnerships. 🏈 FRIDAY | Colonial Forge High School Football On Friday evening, SVFD volunteers provided EMS standby coverage for Colonial Forge High School's varsity football game against Mountain View High School. Our crew was on site and ready to provide emergency medical care if needed, helping support a Friday night tradition that brings together student-athletes, families, and the Stafford community. 🎃 SATURDAY | Halloween 5K & Monster Mile Saturday morning brought our volunteers to Embrey Mill for the 11th annual Halloween 5K and Monster Mile. The event combined family fun, creative costumes, and community participation while benefiting the Stafford County Sheriff's Office's Project Lifesaver program, which helps locate vulnerable individuals at risk of wandering. In addition to providing EMS coverage, our members enjoyed interacting with runners, children, and families, building connections with the community outside of emergency responses. 🦅🌎⚓ SUNDAY | 51st Marine Corps Marathon Early Sunday morning, SVFD volunteers departed Stafford at approximately 2:00 a.m. to support the 51st Marine Corps Marathon in Arlington and Washington, D.C. The event's operational plan anticipated approximately 35,000 registered runners and 100,000 spectators, requiring extensive coordination among local, regional, state, and federal public safety agencies. SVFD's ambulance crew was assigned to Basic Life Support Strike Team 2 within the event's Transportation Group, joining other regional EMS resources as one part of a much larger, coordinated emergency medical response. We extend our sincere appreciation to Arlington County Fire Department, the National Capital Region Incident Management Team, our fellow EMS strike-team personnel, and the regional fire and rescue agencies for the opportunity to participate in this operation. We also recognize the contributions of Arlington County Police Department, Virginia State Police, the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C., United States Park Police, Pentagon Force Protection Agency, Fairfax County Police Department, specialized federal public safety teams, and the United States Marine Corps. Participating in the marathon offered our members a valuable opportunity to contribute to a major regional event, strengthen professional relationships, and learn from the experienced teams responsible for its planning and coordination. We were grateful to serve as one small part of their larger mission. 🤝 COMMUNITY SERVICE & REGIONAL PARTNERSHIPS From local school athletics and family events to a regional emergency medical operation, the weekend reflected the different ways SVFD volunteers support their communities. We thank the schools, event organizers, public safety agencies, community members, and fellow volunteers who made these events possible. We also appreciate our members' professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to representing Stafford throughout the weekend. Proud to serve our community. Grateful for our partnerships. Always learning, always improving. 🚑 Stafford Volunteer Fire Department #StaffordVFD #Dedicated2Excellence #VolunteerEMS #StaffordCounty #MarineCorpsMarathon #CommunityEngagement #MutualAid |
